  • NJM Loves: Paris Design Week

    Parisian design is as sophisticated as it is timeless. That’s why Paris Design Week is one of my favourite events of the year. The biannual fair, occurring again in September, offers a line-up of international designers and brands that take over the city with showrooms, gallery exhibitions and retail spaces. Beyond the inspiring talent in display and French cuisine, this is always a great opportunity for me to catch up with other designers and friends in the industry.

    We attended French silverware Cristofle’s pop-up and had lunch at Gigi Paris, an Italian restaurant known for its textured and layered design. We spent hours sketching pieces inspired by Nolinski hotel’s smoky bar, illuminated by countless lit candles, and Hotel de la Marine’s bright courtyard restaurant. The cloud-painted ceiling at Hotel Crillon’s bar was followed by the cloud-painted staircase at Hotel Nolinski.

  • In celebration of its bicentennial anniversary, La Maison Pierre took over Château de Louye. The house dressed the original 18th century castle rooms with Braquenié’s opulent hand-woven rugs and silk, creating a wonderful dialogue between tradition and reinterpretation.

    The Invisible Collection also unveiled their first major exhibition in Paris in a collaboration with Féau Boiseries. Acclaimed by the Minister of Culture of France, this exhibition filled the labyrinth-like space with iconic designs by Italian textile manufacturer Dedar, who I have often worked with in the past for NMA bespoke designs. As usual, a whirlwind few days in Paris gave me inspiration for months worth of work.
