  • Style Guide: Natural Materials in Bathrooms

Bathrooms are often regarded as sanctuaries of relaxation and rejuvenation. Consider incorporating natural materials such as stone, wood, bamboo, terracotta, and marble to bring unique texture, colour, and character to impart tranquility and timelessness to the space.

    1. Marble: Marble has long been associated with luxury and elegance. Whether its a classic white, an eccentric green, a stunning aquamarine-laced soft brown, or a white veined black marble, using this stone brings the cleanliness and elegance that you want in this space to the forefront of the design.

    2. Stone: Utilizing stone in your bathroom design can add a touch of luxury and durability. Incorporate natural stone in various forms, such as granite or limestone countertops, travertine or slate flooring, or even pebble accents in your shower.

  • 3. Wood: Introducing wood into your bathroom design can infuse warmth and a rustic charm into the space. Opt for water-resistant woods like teak or cedar for vanities, shelving, and flooring.

The spacious bespoke bathroom I designed for our rustic villa (pictured right) employs almost all of these materials. The double vanity was made from heavily rusticated oak with a liquid bronze wash connected to a counter of leathered Spanish soapstone. The custom red copper bath from India was purposefully built to be extra thick to moderate the room’s and sits on a travertine marble floor. The mixture between this array of hard and soft, cold and warm natural materials, makes for a strikingly balanced bathroom.
