  • Paris is always a good idea but my annual January trip with the Atelier’s design team to Deco Off is particularly inspiring. Previewing the collections from the world’s leading textile, furniture and marquetry houses infuses our designs with a fresh energy and sensibility. Perusing the latest exhibitions in the leading museums and galleries allows us to advise our clients on their collections and how to personalise their interiors even further.

This year, one of my highlights was the immersive take-over of the Hotel de Guise by Pierre Frey. Re-decorated entirely in their fabrics, wallpapers, carpets and furniture, the two-story space truly brought their incredible interpretation of ‘the desert’ through fantasy and craft to life. Fortuny’s presentation of their latest fabric collection and special collaboration honouring the transformation of Countess Gozzi’s former Palazzina felt innovative and elevated. The Fondation Cartier’s major retrospective of Olga de Amaral’s work was the highlight of my trip! De Amaral’s understanding and use of colour, material, composition and geometry shares much in common with interior design and architecture. Open until March 16th a, I encourage you to see it if you can. As a huge fan of tableware, I enjoyed the Christofle, A Brilliant Story exhibition at the Musée des Arts décoratifs. A fascinating review for any fan of the decorative arts, this is as much as review of the Maison Christofle’s work and collaborations with some of the greatest creators over nearly 200 years as much as a history of goldsmithery from the 1830s to the present day. Seeing the incredible craftsmanship at the Dolce & Gabbana exhibition reminded me that creativity, materials and the handmade is what transcends trends and creates timelessness.

  • The team and I love to reflect on what we have seen over food and drink at new and old favourites. This year, we particularly enjoyed Jaïs, an elegant and understated bistro/ wine bar, La Renommée, with its fun speak-easy environment and we also returned to L’Emil at the sophisticated and timeless Hotel Chateau Voltaire.
